Sarah Hill-Smith
Sarah is a climate lawyer at the Commonwealth Climate and Law Initiative (CCLI), a legal NGO that examines directors' and fiduciary duties in the context of climate change and nature loss. CCLI conducts independent research and has commissioned legal opinions or papers on directors' duties in 11 jurisdictions and counting.
Sarah previously worked as an associate in the Climate Liability, Risk and Regulatory team at Clyde & Co LLP, where she advised multinational businesses on global ESG regulations and their exposure to climate-related liabilities and risks, including climate liability/ litigation risk. Sarah has worked with clients in energy, logistics, trade, FMCG, engineering, the voluntary carbon market, and more. Before this, Sarah spent 3 years a disputes lawyer specialising in energy and commodities arbitration and commercial litigation, and is an expert on liability risk.
Sarah also works with Legal Response International (LRI) to provide legal and technical advice to climate-vulnerable countries during international climate COPs, and is on the Advisory Board to Legal Voices for the Future, an initiative aimed at educating junior lawyers on the climate and ecological crises.
